Overview:

This is a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) (NVQ). It entails the skills and knowledge required for track maintenance in railway engineering. NVQs are based on national occupational standards that a learner must fulfil in order to be proficient in a certain task. NVQs empower employees to recognise their contributions to the workplace while also developing their skills and potential in the field of railway engineering track maintenance.

Qualification pre-requisites:

Learners are not required to have any prerequisite qualifications or be of a certain age to pursue this qualification unless it is a legal requirement of the procedure or the environment. Any learner who has the potential to meet the assessment criteria can participate in the assessment.

Who is this qualification for?:

Individuals who require acknowledgment of their railway engineering track maintenance skills as well as a nationally recognised Level 3 qualification Learners that are enrolled in an engineering apprenticeship and want to graduate to a more advanced apprenticeship. Those who work in a railway engineering track maintenance setting and want to pursue a Level 3 qualification in the field. Those who are new to railway engineering track maintenance yet want to make a career move and gain new skills in the sector.

How is this qualification assessed?:

The following criteria are used to evaluate the qualification: portfolio of assessment, verbal/written questions, witness testimony, and assessor observations. The major type of evidence acquired must be performance evidence. A minimum of three separate examples of performance of the unit activity will be required to demonstrate consistent competent performance for a unit. It is advised that evidence be obtained holistically wherever possible, and that the evaluation evidence for the necessary units be gathered while the optional units are being performed. Wherever possible, evidence should be collected as a whole, because competent performance in the optional assessment routes is frequently dependent on competence in the necessary assessment routes. This qualification does not require learners to pass an exam.
