Personal Track Safety - Initial
This is a two-day PTS Initial Course that incorporates a PTS e-learning module taught in the classroom.
At the conclusion of the course, the applicant will have a better understanding of the personal safety rules and regulations that must be followed when working on the railway infrastructure “On or Near the Line.”
Who Is The Course Suitable For?
This course is for applicants who want to work on Network Rail’s infrastructure near or on the line.
Before enrolling in the PTS course, candidates must be at least 16 years old and sponsored by a link-up recognised railway firm. This is a firm that has been approved to supply staff to the railway sector after being audited and certified. This sponsoring company’s Sentinel coordinator will need to sign our course booking form and provide their linkup site ID number to indicate their willingness to sponsor you.
Prior to attending the course, candidates must pass a Network Rail-approved medical and drug and alcohol check.
Only individuals with a good enough command of the English language to make an emergency phone call will be allowed to attend.
Course Objectives
On successful completion of the course Candidates will:
- Correctly interpret the relevant parts of the Rule Book, the Track Safety Handbook and will understand the relevant aspects of the Sentinel Scheme.
- Demonstrate their understanding and ability to follow a safe system of work that their COSS will set up for them.
Additional Information
The PTS course is insufficient for those wishing to carry out any work which will affect the geometry of the track in any way. For that a person must attend a 10 day Track Induction Course.
