Overview:

This is a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ). It includes the abilities to organise work and identify and prevent problems, as well as the skills and information required to work in Track renewals. NVQs are based on national occupational standards that a learner must fulfil in order to be proficient in a certain task. NVQs will inspire employees to respect their contributions to the company and will help them develop their skills and potential.

Qualification pre-requisites:

Unless it is a legal requirement of the process or the environment, there are no entry requirements. Any learner who has the potential to meet the assessment requirements outlined in the applicable assessment pathways is eligible for assessment.

Who is this qualification for?:

Individuals who require track renewals competencies in a realistic, sheltered, and regulated setting as part of a Traineeship, which will allow for a safe transition into the workplace/employment.

How is this qualification assessed?:

The following methods are used to assess the qualification: holistic assessment, portfolio of evidence (which could be electronic), verbal questioning, and witness testimonial knowledge and understanding. The NVQ assessment routes are designed to be applicable across the rail engineering industry. As a result, a flexible approach to the context in which assessment routes are delivered and assessed is required.

How is this qualification delivered?:

There is no exam for L1 Track Renewals, which can be done in the workplace or for traineeships in a sheltered setting using simulated activities to mimic the workplace. This certificate serves as a springboard for further rail engineering studies and provides learners with an understanding of the industry.
